1. Concept and Purpose of ICM

The aim of the course is to enhance the knowledge and understanding of integrated crisis management approaches, as well as to enhance collaboration and coordination among the different actors.

The course enhances the participants' knowledge and understanding of the UN integrated approach, particularly in relation to Protection of Civilian (POC), Demobilisation, Disarmament and Reintegration (DDR) and Security Sector Reform (SSR) tasks. The approach of other international organisations is also looked at, especially that of the African Union.

Military, police and civilians looking to work for a UN integrated mission or the UN Country Team are encouraged to apply.

The course is conducted in cooperation with The Finnish Defence Forces International Centre (FINCENT) within the framework of the Centre of Expertise in Comprehensive Crisis Management and NORDEFCO.

2. Learning Objectives

Upon completion of the course the students should be able to:
- understand the UN integrated approach
- know the basic documents, guidelines and principles of the integrated approach
- apply collaboration and coordination between different actors aiming for better information sharing and coordinated action
- have a general understanding of the AU's approach to peacekeeping
- have an overview of EU, NATO and OSCE comprehensive approaches

5. Course Fee

The course organisers cover the following course related expenses:
- participation fee
- course materials
- subject matter experts
- transport from and to Kuopio airport, train/bus station.

Participants are requested to cover the cost for full-board accommodation at the on-campus Course Hotel. The total cost for full-board accommodation (incl. coffee breaks and social event) amounts to € 500 per person which has to be paid before arrival. Information on the payment procedures will be sent to participants after the selection process. Salaries, daily allowances and travel to and from Kuopio, Finland, are at the responsibility of the sending organisation/participants.

Course fee does not apply to experts in CMC Finland's roster nor to those sent by NORPOL.
